FUE Hair Transplantation

The newest and best-resulting technique among hair transplantation methods according to our experience is Follicular Unit Extraction FUE technique. It is a method that allows us to obtain natural results.

FUE is the transplantation of the hair roots ( grafts ) that are taken from donor area ( between two ears and nape of neck region ) to the hairless regions. In this method, hair follicles (follicular units or hair grafts) harvested one by one, with using special round-tip cutters (punch ) and a micro motor. Harvested hair follicle does not regrow, because it is taken with its root. When the tiny circular holes left when grafts harvested are healed and closed, the holes will come close to each other, so there is no noticeable hair density loss which can be recognized by naked eye, in the region where hair is removed. This is especially true when the hair kept 1 cm long.

Unlike the FUT method, no scalpel is used in FUE, no stitches, and there is no visible cut in the area where the hair roots are taken. FUE hair tranplantation can be done without keeping the person from everyday life.

In the FUE and FUT methods, the hair root removal ( graft harvesting ) methods are different but the hair roots are placed in new places ( implantation ) with the same principles. Since the roots obtained with FUE are thinner than the roots obtained with the FUT method, much less noticable indentations remain in the surface of the scalp in the implantation area. This will result in a much more natural appearance. Donor area should be trimmed to 1 mm in FUE method in order to harvest the grafts one by one with micro motor.

In one session (within the same day) 4000-5000 hair root transplants have been a routine operation for us. Not many, but five years ago, these numbers were perceived as too high by us ( still for many centers in the world ). The micro-motorized FUE technique and our ever developing experience are the most important factors in increasing the number of roots. With micro-motorized FUE technique, a maximum number of hair roots can be collected quickly.

Advantages of Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Technique:

Less trauma, less postoperative pain and tension.

Faster healing and recovery.

Patients might wear their hair very short in whom a linear scar may be visible.

Patients with a high degree of scarring from previous surgery that precludes FUT. It is also applied successfully in closing linear scars due to FUT technique.

Patients who need to resume a high level of activity soon after the procedure, such as athletes.

Patients with extremely wide hair shafts who require finer hair from the supra-auricular or low neck regions to create a finer, more natural result. With the FUE technique, hair roots can be removed from the entire area of the hair, rather than just between the two ears.

Patients with poor aesthetic results at the frontal hairline due to large grafts of FUT; FUE can be utilized to thin grafts one follicular unit at a time.

It is a technique that should be preferred especially in eyebrow, beard and moustache reconstruction.
