Success Criterias of FUE Hair Transplantation: Naturalness and Density

The two most important questions in the minds of those who plan to have hair transplantation: '' Will the result look natural? " and '' Can my bald areas be completely filled ? ''

Technically it will be possible to obtain a natural look when certain conditions are met. Those who have read our previous writings will remember, I have emphasized the importance of recipient site creation and the frontal hairline in providing a natural look. I mentioned about how important the direction and the angle of the hair are and the use of single roots in the frontal hairline. Patients who have thin hairs will be more advantageous in having a more natural look, but in the change for less fullness.

Another of the most asked questions is, will my bald areas be completely filled?

One of the most important variables determining the fullness that will occur after the transplantation is the number of hair roots taken from donor region. In those who have a wide bald area and a limited donor area relatively, a satisfactory fullness can only be achieved when transplantation is limited to selected areas only. Distribution of limited number of hair roots in a wide bald area will result in an unnatural result.

Let's look at the situation in a person who do not have hair loss problems. There is an average of 80-100 hair follicles per square centimeter in a person who does not have hair loss. The human eye perceives persons with hair follicles of 40-50 cm2 as normal hair density. When it falls below this critical number, hair loss or decreased fullness can be detected by the naked eye. Theoretically, we can say that it is enough to have 40 - 50 hair follicles in cm 2 in order to get a certain hairy look.

On the other hand, a dense or full appearance is not only related to the number of hair follicles in the unit area. There are many factors such as the color of hair, curly, flat, wavy, the caliber of hair follicle, the color of the scalp skin, the contrast between hair color and scalp color, location of hair loss ( frontal or crown ). For this reason, the density or fullness will be different in patients even having the same number of hair follicles transplanted to same bald unit area. While some people reach the desired result with 25-30 hair follicles in cm², some people need 40-50 in cm² to reach this result.

An exact accordance should be established between the expectation of the patient and the hair density, location and image to be formed in reality. All these details should be explained to the candidates of hair transplantation at the time of initial consultation and the pictures of those who have similar characteristics of hair transplantation performed before will be shown in order to give an idea. There is not yet a computer program that will reveal the end result. Because it is not yet possible to predict the end result to 100%. For this reason, those who have already been operated constitute an important reference.

It is very important to set up personalized planning and building realistic expectations to achieve perfect results with the ideal hair density and satisfied patients.
