Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Hair Specialist

What Happens in Our Standart FUE Hair Transplantation Operation Day

On the day of the procedure, we pick up our patient from the hotel lobby, preferably early in the morning around 08 am. We encourage all patients to have breakfast before coming to hospital, if they did not, a breakfast before the operation is offered to them. When arrieved to hospital, the patient is brought into a room and interviewed by Erkut Özdamar MD. , the preoperative instructions are reviewed, and any questions are answered. The consent form is reviewed and signed.

The physician reviews the procedure once again, detailing where the hair will be transplanted and the location of frontal hairline is delineated. A lot of the initial planning is performed during the consultation. However, when the patient decides on having the procedure, the surgeon can begin to reflect more seriously on how many grafts and what sized grafts are necessary to accomplish the task at hand. This decision-making process involves matching how many hairs must be harvested (based on donor hair density and the extent of planned harvest site) to how much area must be covered with how many grafts of what kind. Preoperative photographic documentation is also done.

After completion of the interview, before proceeding with the operation, the operation fee (charge) is taken and accepted as cash only.

Patients are brought to a changing room where they can leave their belongings and put on a gown. We recommend to take their wallet and cellular phone in their pocket. After this, hair cut (trimming ) is done by the staff. They are then escorted into the procedure room. Here, the staff is introduced and the donor region is marked. An IV line (for intravenous access) is opened and some blood taken for serological analysis ( Hep B and C, HIV ). The procedure is about to begin!

Patients are encouraged to let the physician or anyone on the staff know if they need to go to the bathroom during the procedure, want something to drink or eat, or need more anesthesia.

As previously mentioned, the operation most commonly begins with local anesthesia application. Mostly we begin with graft harvesting, for this reason local anesthesia first applied to back site of the head. Then the patients lies on his face down, and by with a micromotor, the hair roots are harvested one by one. At completion of graft harvesting, photographs of the grafts taken ( for documentation of graft quality and number of harvested grafts ) and they will be send to the patients e-mail together with other peroperative pictures.

When the graft harvesting completed, hair line is remarked by Erkut Özdamar MD. and local anesthesia applied to frontal region. Its time for recipient site creation now. Planing , design, distribution of grafts, and execution is all done by Erkut Özdamar MD.

We give a lunch break most commonly after completion of recipient site creation. After the break we proceed with the last step of the operation : Implantation of the grafts. Local anesthesia is applied along the frontal hair line. The length of the line is much shorter than the donor area, so local anesthesia application is shorter in time. You will lie down on your back, watch TV or you may check your mobile phone.

With implantation of the last graft, the operation will be completed. After the procedure is completed, a dressing is applied that should be kept on overnight. The dressing, which is nonadherent to any part of the scalp, is to protect the donor area. The dressing is left in place overnight and removed the next day. Sometimes we keep dressing until first head wash that is 3 days.

At the conclusion of the procedure the surgeon usually checks the final placement of the grafts, and then explains the postoperative instructions, which are supplied in written form as well. The patient is instructed to call or message Erkut Özdamar MD with any questions or concerns.

The patient is again driven back to his hotel after the operation and dressing change time is scheduled.
